At a property tax review meeting, Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj instructed staff to prepare a list of defaulters, issue notices and seal the property.

The MC Commissioner held a meeting with Co-Commissioner Deepjot Kaur, Property Tax Department Nodal Officer Daljit Singh, Zonal Superintendents and MC Zonal Inspectors.

He said that after the implementation of the single settlement program to file property tax, the list of all defaulters should be prepared and notices should be given to them.

The commissioner said that the target for council tax and property tax in this financial year was Rs 50 crore, while for the current financial year only Rs 5.92 crore had been perceived so far. He said the MC needed to increase revenue to meet expenses.

In instructing MC staff, the commissioner said that every officer and employee in the property tax wing should show no laxity to achieve the target.

He said that after the implementation of the Single Settlement Scheme (OTS) for filing property tax issued by the Punjab government, the list of all defaulters, who have not yet paid the tax, should be prepared. and notices should be sent to them.

Each zone superintendent must seal at least 10 large commercial and industrial properties in their respective zones, whose owners have not yet paid the tax from previous years.

The process of sealing these properties should be initiated. Lists of large commercial and industrial establishments in each zone should be prepared in descending order. MC officials have been instructed to obtain details of commercial and industrial buildings constructed in their respective areas from the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited, Sales Tax Department and Industrial Department.

The commissioner has also instructed to make public information about the 10% property tax rebate if paid by September 30.

He said a 10% rebate was available for property tax filing for 2022-23 by September 30. He said the department should take all appropriate steps to notify residents of the city. For this, advertisements should also be displayed in the city, Kumar Saurabh said.
